FARIDABAD, July 9: Six persons, including two women, of a pilgrimage party were killed and 31 injured when a speeding truck hit their tractor trailer near Mundkati village between Hodal and Palwal on the Delhi-Mathura highway last evening. The pilgrims were on way to Govardhan, a religious place near Mathura, from the Makam village in Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.Four persons died on the spot, two succumbed to their injuries in the Hodal Civil Hospital. All the injured have been admitted to three different hospitals in the district.
According to the district authority the incident took place about 7 pm when a truck on way to Mathura lost control and hit the trailer from behind. About 46 persons were sitting in the trailer. Quoting eyewitnesses, the district authority said the impact of the collision threw most of the passengers off the open trailer.
Five persons have been admitted into Hodal Civil Hospital, 20 in Civil Hospital, Palwal, and six shifted to the B.K. Hospital in Faridabad. Condition of the injured shifted to the B.K. Hospital were stable. Those died have been identified as Mahinder, 45, Chilu, 13, Lala, 27, Omwati, 40, Sunita, 20, and Om Pal, 21.
