AZAMGARH, July 12: Six people including a woman were killed and seven injured due to lightning in three villages of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh last night, police said today.
Police said five persons succumbed to their injuries after they were struck by lightning under Maharajganj Police Circle while a woman taking shelter under the shadow of a tree was also killed. Police said at least seven women were seriously hurt due to lightning in Barohi while they were planting paddy saplings. The district administration has granted an ex-gratia relief of Rs 50,000 to the next of kin of each person killed.
