Congress blames BJP for Women's Bill fiasco
The Congress has squarely blamed the BJP for the postponement of the Women's Reservation Bill saying such a suggestion had come from the ruling party which was only interested in shelving the legislation. The deputy leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, P Shiv Shanker, said it was Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan who had suggested at a meeting with the Speaker that the demand of Laloo Prasad Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav for two more days for consultations be conceded.

BJP to fight Deputy Speaker election
Gaining confidence from the assurances of support from allies, the Bharatiya Janata Party is gearing up to take on the Opposition and face an election for the post of Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker. At a meeting of the BJP and allies today, the Prime Minister was authorised to choose the nominee. The Congress has already rejected the BJP's plea for a consensus and decided to field P M Sayeed.

Rajasthan CM too opposes central teams
Support for Chief Ministers Jyoti Basu, M. Karunanidhi and Rabri Devi came from unexpected quarters today when their Rajasthan counterpart, the BJP's Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, said he was opposed in principle to the Centre's idea of sending teams to review the law and order situation of a state. Shekhawat's statement was in response to Congress president Sonia Gandhi's demand that the Centre ought to send a team to Rajasthan to look into the "glaring lapses" of the BJP State Government in preventing atrocities on women.
