Ronaldo suffered convulsions before final
Ronaldo suffered a 30 to 40 seconds fit of convulsions just hours before the game with France on Sunday, the Brazilian team doctor Lidio Toledo told Brazilian reporters in Paris. The 21-year old player, whose poor performance was among the reasons for his team loss 0-3 to France, was shown on a TV Globo news report saying that after the fit he went to sleep and "woke up with pains all over my body."

Sasikiran in lead with five others
Young International Master K Sasikiran went into joint lead with seven points after a hard-fought win over Yves Ranola of Philippines in the eighth round of the chess tournament at Benasque in Spain. He joins five Grandmasters -- Namelyubilava, Kuzmin, Barbero, Cifuentes Parada and Conquest -- on top of the table with just a round to go in this tournament.

Indians falter at Open
India's Jeev Milkha Singh yesterday failed to qualify for the 127th Open championship at Royal Birkdale after missing out on a five-way play-off for the remaining two spots at the Hesketh Golf Club in Southport, England by a solitary shot in treacherous weather conditions. Jeev, one of six Indians attempting to qualify for the world's most prestigious golf event, followed an opening round 75 with a four over par 76 and finished with a 153 aggregate for 36 holes.
