Visas denied to foreign coaches

NEW DELHI, July 16: The Japanese embassy has denied visas to all five foreign officials accompanying the Indian contingent to the 12th the Asian Track and Field Meet in Fukuoka (Japan) from July 19-22.

Coaches Aleksei Ivano, Gueorgui Tchernychev and Masseurgennadi Kossarev (Russia), sprint coach Valery Moshkovsky and team doctor Yuri Boyko (both Ukraine) have not been issued visas.

``We submitted the relevant papers as early as June 1 and also provided supporting papers sent by the Japanese athletic federation. But the authorities here say they have to get clearance from their foreign ministry,' AAFI secretary Lalit K Bhanot said.
