EC shoots down HM advice on poll reforms
Attempting to wrest back the initiative on electoral reforms, the Election Commission has reiterated some of their long-standing proposals, criticised moves to lower the minimum age for contesting elections and offered its services for the task of delimitation of constituencies.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi yesterday appointed a little-known leader from Satara, Prataprao Bhosle as the president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC). His selection as the MPCC chief is a clear signal from Sonia that she prefers to follow the Indira Gandhi line of disallowing the growth of regional satraps.

Karnataka MPs to meet Vajpayee over Cauvery row
Following All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J Jayalalitha's bid to raise the pitch on the Cauvery issue, MPs belonging to all parties from Karnataka are meeting the Prime Minister on Monday to appeal to him to safeguard the interests of their State.
