Society's plea for restraint

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, July 19: To highlight people's concern over growing tension between India and Pakistan, Servants of the People Society observed `maun' here today.

Onkar Chand, general secretary, Lokshakti, said that the society was of the firm view that the people's initiative for peace in both the countries was the need of the hour.

The Society urged the people to shed their passivity so as to make the two government agree to a no-war pact. He felt that both the countries should show restraint and make a sincere bid for total disarmament.

It was also observed that in the countries where the millions of people were living below the poverty line, the resources should be channelized towards social development rather than on expenditure on arms and armaments, said P.P. Arya, convenor of Janshakti in a press release here today.
