Eve-teasing victim dies on her b'day

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, July 25: After a four-day traumatic battle for life, Sarika Shah, a victim of eve-teasing, succumbed to injuries at a city hospital on Friday evening. The day she breathed her last happened to be her birthday as well.

Sarika, who had been pushed down by an eve-teaser on Monday while she was walking near the Ethiraj College, suffered grievous head injuries and was rushed to the hospital by friends in an unconscious condition.

On Friday, Sarika succumbed around 7.30 pm. Her parents and brother who had been spending traumatic hours by her bedside, were inconsolable, say friends. The 18-year-old girl, who was doing her second year BBM course at Ethiraj College, was returning home when the eve-teasing incident occurred. According to eyewitnesses, a group of boys in an autorickshaw were seen spraying water from sachets at students standing near the Ethiraj College, when suddenly the vehicle swerved and one of the boys fell on Sarika and knocked her down.
