Complaints pour in as Pune Varsity trips up again

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, July 28: Hard-pressed as the University of Pune's examination section was to declare the examination results of post-graduate and under-graduate courses on time, it is now confronted with a piquant situation as the trickle of complaints about mistakes in the marksheets issued to students is fast turning into a torrent.

After results of post-graduate degree examinations were declared last week, students soon began to point out their "erroneous" marksheets. In some cases, despite having appeared for the examination, they have been marked absent. A few post-graduate students from the English department, on condition of anonymity, lamented that they had been marked absent even when they had appeared for the examination. A student has obtained 86 marks out of a total of 80. Students of vocational courses too have been affected.

While studying a degree course in any faculty, students can opt for vocational subjects which have been introduced by the University Grants Commission to meet job requirements. Soalong with the B.Sc, BA or B.Com degree, students can study industrial chemistry, computer maintenance, sericulture, seed technology, banking or secretarial practice.

Fergusson College principal V K Wagh admitted that students of the vocational second year B Sc -- still photography course -- did have errors in their marksheets due to the break-up of the internal assessment and the marks obtained in the final examination. However, he stressed that the problem would be sorted out and students would have to bear for a few days.

When contacted, Dr Santosh Dastane, controller of examinations, said, "The complaints have been processed, marksheets revised and there are no pending cases," Dastane said assuring that students' grievances would be dealt with immediately.
