2 accused in Navale attack get bail

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Additional Sessions Judge RY Ganoo today granted bail to the two Shiv Sainiks who were arrested earlier this month in connection with the alleged attack on former Minister of State Suresh Navale.

Gajanan Shinde and Madhukar Gawand were released on a bail of Rs 2,000 each. On July 20 this year a mob of 15 to 20 persons barged into Navale's official bungalow at Nariman Point. While the rest waited outside, some went inside Nawle's cabin and threatened him, asking him whether the government would fall and whether some ministers would defect to the opposition.

The duo was later arrested by the Cuffe Parade police. While Navale could not identify them, his bodyguard and the telephone operator identified Gawand as being part of the mob.

Special Public Prosecutor AG Deshmukh argued that the case is of rioting and therefore by virtue of constructive liability, the duo are also liable for the acts committed by them.

Rajendra Shirodkar appeared for the accused.
