Labourer killed
One Kailash Bachubhai Chaudhary, 21, a manual labourer working at a textile factory at Katargam GIDC was killed instantaneously when he slipped and fell into a machine on Tuesday morning, the Katargam police said. Chaudhary was working in Shed no 11, Vishwakarma Industries at the New Katargam GIDC, when he slipped in to a whopping machine, the police added. The police have a registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC and are investigating.

Suicide
A youth, Virambhai, residing at Shwetrajan Society in the city, committed suicide by hanging himself during the early hours of Tuesday, the Kapodara police said. The reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained, the police added. A case under CrPC 174 has been registered at the Kapodara police station and is being investigated.

Lights stolen
Flood lights of a swimming pool, located at Vanita Vishram area in Athwa Lines area of the city, run by the Surat Municipal Corporation were stolen during the early hours of Tuesday, the Umra police said. According to a case registered, unidentified people scaled the walls surrounding the swimming pool and decamped with flood lights worth Rs 10,000 and other goods kept in the store and boring room. A case has been registered and is being investigated.

Dowry case
A resident of Vrindawan Society at Palanpur Patia area lodged a complaint with the police stating that her husband was physically and mentally torturing her for dowry since 1993. According to the complainant, the accused consumed liquor and beat her up regularly. The Athwa Police registered a case under sections 498, 406 and 420 of the IPC as well as sections 3 and 6 of the Dowry Act and have detained the accused for interrogations.
