Akash test-fired

CHANDIPUR-ON-SEA: India on Monday successfully test-fired multi-target surface-to-air missile Akash which can deliver both conventional and nuclear explosives from the interim test range here. Known as the Indian version of USA's Patriot missile, Akash having a range of 25 km is capable of forcing all intruding aircraft to fly only at tree-top level from about 20 km across the border.

Lok Pal Bill

NEW DELHI: A seventh attempt was being made to set up a Lok Pal with the introduction of the controversial bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday. But like its six predecessors, this bill too appears doomed in the absence of consensus to see it through.

VARANASI: The police on Monday arrested more than 50 activists ofShiv Sena, who were staging a dharna demanding unrestricted darshan of Shringar Gauri religious site in the Kashi Vishwanath temple-Gyanvapi Mosque campus here. Various Hindu organisation including Shiv Sena, Shiv Doot and Bhairavi Sena had announced their plans to offer Jalabhisheka in Vishwanath temple.
