BARODA, Aug 3: Last year's finalists, Petroleum Sports Control Board (PSCB) and Railway Sports Control Board (RSCB) will clash for both men's and women's team titles in the All India Inter-Institutional Table Tennis Championship here.In the men's semi-finals today, RSCB men had a tough time against Bank Sports Board (BSB) losing both the opening matches before Ganesh Kundu, Bhushan Thakur and Nupur Santra fought back valiantly to clinch the next three matches.
Bankmen Sunil Babras and Deepak Thukral played some fantastic shots to get past Nupur Santra and Bhushan Thukral respectively in straight but closely fought games. PSCB hit back with Ganesh Kundu wearing out Vinit Chopra in three games and Bhushan Thakur found his touch against Sunil Babras, subdueing him in two games. In the decider, Santra struggled to beat Thukral winning the third and final game at 22-20.
Though PSCB men had it easier against LIC, winning 3-0, it was not before S Raman overcame a stiff resistance from Parag Agarwal to win hismatch 21-17, 17-21, 21-14.
In the women's first semi-final, RSCB demolished LIC 3-0 with ease except for top seed Kasturi Chakraborty, who had to play three sets to overcome Chandrani Ganguli.
Kasturi won the first set overcoming some spirited performance by Chandrani at 21-16, but conceded the second 19-21 before winning the third and game at 21-8.
In the other semi-final, PSCB women had a tough time against BSB before winning 3-2.
BSB'S NR Indu won both her games against Bhuvaneshwari 21-15, 22-20 and Mythili 21-17, 21-18 to level the scores 2-2 but her team lost the fifth match to give PSCB the wining lead.
