Advani rejects fresh probe into Rajan Pillai case

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, Aug 3: Union Home Minister L K Advani today rejected the demand of Opposition members for setting up an inquiry into the conspiracy angle of the custodial death of biscuit king Rajan Pillai.

Replying to the half-hour debate on the Leila Seth Commission, Advani assured the members that he will hold informal discussions on the matter with the Delhi Government.

He said the Leila Seth Commission which was set up to inquire into the conspiracy angle did not find any conclusive evidence, and that it had issued advertisements in the newspapers seeking public help in the matter.

Nina Pillai, wife of Rajan Pillai, had earlier stated that she will provide the evidence with the conspiracy angle but later she refused to name the conspirator.

Advani said there have been systemic changes in the Tihar jail after the commission report. There is now a 24-hour attendance of doctors. Also there are 75 doctors now as opposed to 16 doctors earlier. Initial medical check up too has been made imperative.
