Man burns stepson to death

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, August 3: A twenty-six-year-old was burnt to death by his 55-year-old step father on Sunday afternoon after the former refused to give the old man money to buy liquor. Victim's one-and-a-half-year-old daughter too suffered 40 per cent burns when alarmed by her father's screams for help she ran into the room and embraced him.

According to a senior police inspector attached to the Ghatkopar police station, Ramlauth Badri Prasad Singh Thakur (55), a resident of Jai Maharashtra Nagar, Ghatkopar, had demanded Rs 1,000 from his son, Baban Londhe on Saturday night. Since Baban realised that Thakur needed the money to buy booze, he refused. An enraged Thakur then started abusing his son and a physical scuffle ensued. In a fit of anger Thakur picked up a kerosene can and emptied it on Baban. Even before Baban could guess as to what his father was up to, Thakur threw a burning match stick on his son.

Baban and Pooja were rushed to the Rajawadi hospital by neighbours. While Baban, who suffered 90 per centburns, succumbed at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Rajawadi hospital, Pooja with 40 per cent burns is still battling for her life at the Nair hospital.
