NEW DELHI, August 3: Defending champions City Club scored a 2-0 convincing victory over Simla Youngs in a group A match of the DSA-SAIL Senior Division Super League Football Championship Ambedkar Stadium here today. At the interval, the winners led 1-0.City boys, combining well through their medios Dharam Pal Rawat, Sharawat Khan and Jaspal Raj, made inroads in the opponents' citadel from the very beginning. Simla Youngs' defenders were finding it difficult in tackling City's forwards onslaughts.
City's outside-left Shyam Kumar sent a fine centre from the left flank in the 19th minute on which Simla Youngs' defenders Manish Mehta, Manjeeb and Kawaljeet Singh fumbled in clearing the ball. City's inside-right Harish Bisht was quick in sending the ball inside the box.
Simla Youngs defenders came heavy pressure from City lads' onslaught and the ball remained most of the time in losing side. On changing ends, Simla Youngs settled and thwarted formidable City lads in taking any advantage.
In the 45th minute, a fine move was initiated from the mid-field and City striker Harish Bisht collected the ball from outside the box and tapped it over Simla Youngs' defenders and custodian R S Negi. Nageshwer Rao and Harish Bisht missed easy chances for City Club.
Simla Youngs' Dhirender Rawat's efforts inside the box went waste when linesman Satish Chaddha raised the flag and denied the losing team a chance to reduce the margin. Simla Youngs' defender Manish Mehta was shown yellow card for infringement by Refree Vijay Ram Dhyani in the 69th minute.
