Sethi and Sibia turn pros

CHANDIGARH, Aug 3: Two more golfers from Chandigarh have turned professionals. Simran Sethi and Biru Sibia will make their debut as professionals in the forthcoming ITC Classic golf tournament to be held in Delhi. This was stated here today by G S Kochhar, chairman Media and Publicity Committee of Chandigarh Golf Club.

Chandigarh has produced India's top ace golfer Chiranjeev Milkha Singh while country's best amateur golfer Harmeet Kahlon also belongs to the `City Beautiful. Amandeep Johl and Amritinder Singh of Chandigarh are also the leading Indian professional golfers playing in international meets.

The club has also prepared its calendar for 1998-99. Kochhar disclosed that the season would begin with the Independence Day Cup commencing on August 7 and final and loser plate would be held on Aug 14.

It will be followed by All-India National Junior and Sub-Junior tournament from September 15 to 18 and the Northern India Amateur golf tournament is slated from Oct 13 to 16.

After the Family golf tournament on Oct 19, Chandigarh Golf Club will play host to the Punjab Ladies Open from October 27 to 30. The club has planned Old Boys Inter-School tournament on Dec 6.

The contest between Armed Forces and the Rest for the Gen Zoru Bakshi trophy will be conducted on January 3 next year while the CGC vs Shivalik Golf Club match for the Ahluwalia Cup will be held on February 7.

The Aman Nat Junior and Sub-Junior golf tournament will be organised on February 11 and 12 while the Jaspal Memorial Inter-Club Cup is billed for Feb 28.

The Chandigarh Open will be the the main attraction next year. It will be held from March 25 to 28 and followed by Chandigarh Ladies Open from April 7 to 10.
