Taliban poised to gain control of oppn capital
The Taliban militia closed in on Afghan opposition capital of Mazar-i-Sharif on Monday after making a spectacular breakthrough in the north of the country. Taliban troops were advancing from the east and west of Mazar-i-Sharif, the only Afghan city not under the strict Islamic control of the militia.

Over 100 die in South Korea floods
Floods have left some 100 people dead or missing around South Koreas popular Mount Chiri resort as thousands of rescuers scoured the area. The central disaster agency (CDA) said 35 bodies had been recovered since early Saturday.
