Silent march to mark World Peace Day
Several city organisations will hold a silent march on the `World Peace Day', on August 6. Members of the Gujarat Sramik Mandal, the Human Rights Centre, PUCL, SUC, Movement for Secular Democracy, Sarvodaya Mitra Mandal, among others will join the march at 4 pm, starting from Gandhi baug. The procession will terminate at the Collectorate, where a memorandum will be submitted to the district collector.

I-Day discounts
Representatives of hotel, farsan, confectioners, cinema associations held a meeting with civic authorities on Wednesday, where they announced discount on the occasion of the Independence Day. The Confectioner's Association has announced 10 per cent discount per kg of confectionary, while the Farsan Association has announced eight per cent discount. The Surat Hotel owners association has announced 20 per cent discount. The SMC has asked association representatives to decorate their commercial establishments for the best decoration will win a prize.

CSS seminar
The Centre for Social Studies has organised a seminar on `Dalit Consciousness and Literature'. Dr S D Kapoor of Jodhpur University will speak at the seminar, schedule for August 10, at 3 pm at the centre's seminar hall.

Rainfall
According to a release issued by the Dangs district administration on Wednesday, the district received 1375 mm of rainfall this season. There have been no incidents of damage to crops or property because of the rains, the release said.

Concession
Saputara, the only hill station in South Gujarat, is all set to welcome tourists from all over the country. Even as the Dangs district administration has taken elaborate steps to upgrade facilities at the hill resort, officials said the region had witnessed a spurt in the number of tourists. A meeting of district administration to chalk out the itenary for Sharad Mohatsav, a major tourist attraction was also held in Saputara.

Pilgrims return
A group of about 25 pilgrims of Dangs district, who had gone for the Amarnath pilgrimage this year, returned safely back, a release issued from the district headquarters stated.
