Music concerton Sunday

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Aug 5: Vocalists Mahendra Toke, Niraj Parikh and Viraj Amar will perform at a live music concert based on the original bandish of Sadarang Adarang, organised by Swar Sangam at V T Science College Hall on August 9 at 5 pm.

Sadarang Adarang were pioneers in the development of Khayal Gayaki of North Indian tradition and contributed a great deal in spreading its popularity. As Drupad gayaki was losing its popularity, innovations were more acceptable to people.

Though Khayal gayaki actually started in the 13rth century it was Sadarang Adarang who strengthened this type of gayaki and composed nearly 150 Bandish, making the Khayal gayaki more popular. The new style also incorporated the old Drupad style. It reached its peak by the year AD 1715.

The concert will be compered by Dr Krishikesh Pathak. Shishir Bhatt will be at the harmonium, while Jayant Shukla will play the tabla.
