VADODARA, Aug 5: The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is said to have shown willingness to run buses on extra routes in the city as per Pune-based Central Institute of Road Transport's recommendations.According to highly placed sources, GSRTC Chairman Bimal Shah recently, during a talk with Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) Chairman K K Shah, said the Corporation could consider running buses on extra routes. The Pune-based institute has prepared the report at a cost of Rs 13.50 lakh at the behest of VUDA.
Co-ordinating with private taxis and autorickshaws and, introducing buses in uncovered areas were some of the suggestions of the report, prepared with the aim to ease traffic congestion in the city.
Bimal Shah is reported to have said that if running more buses was not possible, the Corporation might set up a semi-government body involving the VUDA, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and other government agencies and private agencies to manage the city's bus service.
Further talks are likely to be held on August 10.
