The Kurla boys had things their own way in the first-half. They made the most of the weak Garodia defence by building up a match-winning lead of 3-0 at half-time and were restricted just one goal in the second-half.

Saroj Ashish, the hardworking central striker, gave the Kurla boys the lead. Charles Pereira made it 2-0 when scoring from a melee. Lyle D'Mello consolidated their position and on crossing over, Saroj Ashish scored an opportunistic goal to round-off the tally.

In the other Ahmed Sailor first-round tie at the same venue, Holy Family (Andheri) defeated St Lawrence 6-4 via tie-breaker after being locked 2-2 at regulation time. The Andheri lads took the lead twice, but the Vashi boys rallied to neutralise the lead on both occasions. Holy Family were confident and took their shotswell in the tie-breaker.

Paramveer Chavan (2), D Mangia, S Salian, S Ahuja, and S Ankit were the goal-getters for Holy Family. Kishore Patel (2), P Pujari and Brijesh Thakur accounted for St Lawrence.

In yet another Ahmed Sailor match at the St Francis D'Assisi ground (Borivli), a lone goal by K Voderdarai turned out to be the match-winner for St Mary's (Mira Road) against St Francis (Bhayander).
