Ramananda panel plan celebration of liberation struggle

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
HYDERABAD, Aug 12: To mark the liberation of people in the erstwhile Hyderabad state from the despotic rule of Nizam in 1948, the memorial committee of Swami Ramananda Tirtha has decided to celebrate the golden jubilee for a full year from September 17.

The celebrations will be conducted in Telangana as well as Marathwada and Karnataka.

A decision to this effect was taken by former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, who participated in a meeting at Swami Ramananda Tirtha memorial premises at Begumpet here during his two-day stay in the city on August 9 and 10.

The golden jubilee celebrations of the liberation movement will start with a procession consisting of representatives from Marathwada, Karnataka and Telangana which will culminate at Ramananda Tirtha samadhi at Begumpet. It will be followed by a public meeting, where the celebrations will be launched officially.

Area-wise sub-committees will later undertake tours in the former Nizam-ruled areas and conduct flag salutes and hold exhibitions ofphotographs and books besides staging cultural programmes.

During the year-long celebrations, a broad-based meeting of representatives of all the backward areas will also be held to draw schemes and programmes that have to be undertaken on an urgent basis. In Telangana districts, the activists will identify one mandal in each district and work for achieving total literacy. Likewise, a village will be selected in each mandal to provide safe drinking water, basic health care, education, modern agricultural practices and other developmental activities.
