MADURAI, Aug 12: The Central Government should initiate steps to take necessary follow-up action based on the Srikrishna Commission report, Indian National League general secretary Abdul Latheef has said.Talking to newsmen here yesterday, he said action should be ensured on the basis that such commissions were legally constituted.
Referring to the Cauvery issue, he said the Opposition parties in the State were trying to restrain Karunanidhi from attending the meeting of the chief ministers called by the prime minister.
He said the Karnataka Government, amidst much opposition from other parties there, had agreed to release 205 tmc water to Tamil Nadu. Welcoming the new agreement, he termed unfair the opposition put up by the State parties. He urged the Centre to nationalise all the rivers, which could be the only solution to river water distributions in future.
He condemned police for conducting frequent raids on the residences of Muslim people and mosques in search of terrorists. The police shouldfirst ascertain the presence of terrorists through its intelligence network before conducting raids and harassing innocent people, he added.
