EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, Aug 12: Two persons, Murugesh Kutty Manickam Devendra and Raju Tewari, were killed in two separate shootouts in the city this evening.

Devendra, a criminal, was shot dead by four unidentified men at the Sudama Bar near Roopam Cinema, Sion.

When Devendra was sitting in the bar at around 5.30 pm, four persons barged inside and opened fire at him. As he slumped to the ground, the assailants made good their escape in a waiting cab.

Police confirmed the assailants used a 9 mm pistol, and three empty cartridges have been recovered from the scene of the crime.

Hit on the chest, back and head, Devendra was rushed to LTMG Hospital, Sion, but was declared dead on admission. Devendra was a history-sheeter and had uleashed a reign of terror in the Sion-Koliwada area.

A police officer said Devandra was involved in land-grabbing, particularly in areas adjoining railway tracks on the harbour line. Cases of assault and extortion were also registered against him at several police stations.

The secondincident took place at around 7.30 pm. When Raju Tewari (24) was standing near Deepa Hotel at Molie village, Saki Naka, four unidentified men came up to him and opened fire.
