NEW DELHI, Aug 12: A 22-member list of probables (11 men and 11 women) has been finalised to attend a preparatory coaching camp at Patiala for the 14th Asian Table Tennis Championships to be held at Osaka (Japan) from September 27 to October 4.Reigning national champions Chetan P Baboor and Kasturi Chakraborty head the list in the two categories. The preparatory camp will be held at Patiala from August 21 to September 16, Table Tennis Federation of India secretary Mool Chand Chowhan said here today while releasing the probables list. The names of probables were chosen by the selection committee comprising Kamlesh Mehta, Manjit Dua, Sujay Ghorpade and M C Chowhan.
The final list of four men and three women for the championships will be named during the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Prize Money tournament to be held in Delhi during the third week of September.
Regarding participation of the Indian team in the Bangkok Asian Games in December this year, Chowhan said the federation had been pleading with the sportsministry to send the team as India had finished fourth in the last Asian Championships.
He also revealed that the national sub-junior championships, originally slotted to Delhi, will now be held at Surat as the Delhi association had withdrawn its earlier acceptance to conduct it.
Probables: Men: Chetan Baboor, S Raman, Arup Basak, Arjun Dutta, Soumyadeep Roy, Subhajeet Saha (Sr), Deepak Thukral, Vineet Chopra, R Rajesh, Subhajeet Saha and S Sriram.
Women: Kasturi Chakraborty, N R Indu, M S Mythili, Mantu Ghosh, Poulomi Ghatak, Mouma Das, Arul Selvi, B Bhuvaneswari, Susmita Roy, Mallika Parekh and Vishaka Bijay.
