Three share lead in Rapid Chess
Gurpreet Pal Singh, Harish Sharma and Sandeep Chitkara led the field with three points each at the end of the third round in the Open Rapid Chess Tournament being held at Commercial School, Daryaganj.Gurpreet Pal Singh (3) defeated M K Jain (2) in French Defence. In other matches, Harish Sharma (3) beat S C Sinha (2) of Bihar in Sicilian Dragon in 24 moves, Sandeep Chitkara (3) downed D S Negi (1.5).
Cricket venue shifted
The venue for the first game in the five-match `Freedom 50' one-day series between India Seniors and Sri Lanka Seniors has been shifted from Delhi to Agra. It will be held on August 25.
Delhi, however, will host the next two matches on August 27 and 29. The fourth and the final match in the series will be played at Amritsar on August 31 and September 2.
The Sri Lankan Seniors team, led by Duleep Mendis, is expected to arrive here on the night of August 23.
Harish, Manoj excel
Harish Sharma, a student of class 11, and Manoj Kumar of class 10, of Gandhi Memorial Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Shahdara won the senior table tennis tournament for zone 5, north-east district. The pair from the school defeated GHP School, Shahdara 21-17, 21-18.
SP Trophy from Sept 7
The eighth S P Trophy cricket tournament will be held at Mohan Nagar ground from September 7. Prominent teams including last year's joint winners Mohan Meakin, J N Golden, Indian Airlines, ONGC, Sonnet, Malviya, FCI, Delhi Blues, Delhi Police, Rajasthan Colts, State Bank of Patiala, South Delhi, Subhania and District Association of Ghaziabad are expected to participate.
