Snooker tourney

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
CHANDIGARH, Aug 12: Some of the top cueists, including Dharmendra Lilly and Alok Kumar, will be seen in action in the first S Jaswant Singh Bhullar Memorial prize money snooker tournament to be held at `Canon Ball' in Sector 37 from August 15.

Apart from winner and runners-up who will become richer by Rs 11,000 and Rs 5,100 respectively, there are cash awards for best eight cueists. The players with highest break will also get Rs 1,000.

More than 50 participants from Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab are expected to take part in the tourney.

Cash awards
The Chandigarh Sports Council will honour outstanding sports persons of Chandigarh who have won distinction at the national and international level in the year 1995-96 and 1996-97. The cash award ceremony will be held at PGI Bhargava Auditorium on August 22 at 11 a.m.

Coaches, who are deputed with the Chandigarh Sports Department and have excellent results during the above period will also be honoured on the occasion.

Carrom meet
The eight Chandigarh state sub-junior carrom championships will be held at St Stephen's School, Sector 45 from August 29. According to a press release, in a three-day meet competitions will be organised in boys and girls group (singles and doubles).

Players should be below the age of 14 years on August 26, 1998. Entries close on August August 22, with DS Aithani, H.No-564-B, Sector 32-A.

Cricket match
A friendly match amongst the veteran cricketers of the City will be organised by UT Cricket Association on August 30 at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium. According to a press release, the match is open to all the players who are 40 years and above.

Entries along with Rs 100, may be send to SS Bawa, H.No-2499, Sector 19-C, before August 20.
