Vajpayee Govt hits danger mark
The Cauvery and its flood of problems it seems is all set to drown the fledgling BJP-led coalition government at the Centre as Jaylalitha aide and Union Law Minister Thambidurai announced that a decision on the withdrawal of support would be taken on Thursday. The two rounds of talks with Prime Minister A B Vajpayee's emissaries George Fernandes and Pramod Mahajan apparently could not convince the irrepressible Jayalalitha.

Notices served on Gidwani's petition
On an election petition filed by Shiv Sena leader Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, Justice V R Datar on Wednesday directed to serve notices to all the respondents, which will be returnable within four weeks. Gidwani, who lost to independent candidate Arun Mehta in the June 18 biennial Legislative Council elections, has challenged the latter's election.

SAD denies diluting stand on Udham Singh Nagar
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today denied that it had softened its stand on the Udham Singh Nagar issue.It said the BJP-led Government must "keep the district out" of the proposed Uttaranchal state if it wanted the SAD's continued support.
