India defeat Colombia
MUMBAI: India whipped Colombia 3-0 in the 10th World Junior squash championship at Princeton in USA yesterday in the play-off for 17-24 positions.National champion Ritwik Bhattacharya beat Bernado Samper 9-7, 9-6, 9-0 before a less-than-fully-fit Rohan Juneja gave them the winning lead by outlasting Javier Castella 10-8, 2-9, 9-0, 6-9, 9-6 in an hour, according to information received here.
Gaurav Juneja completed the rout by thrashing Juan Jose Jiminez 9-5, 9-1 in the inconsequential third match of the tie.
Mongia wins
HYDERABAD: Nitin Mongia of Mumbai's Naval Sailing Club (NSC) and Arjun Pradeepak of Secunderabad Sailing Club (SSC) won the fourth and and fifth races respectively in the Laser Standard Rig event in the BPL International Open championship at Hussian Sagar Lake here today.
Mongia won the fourth race in one hour 10.41 minutes, upsetting defending champion Lt R Mahesh, who finished third behind Havaldar Ram Kumar of Corps Engineering Sailing Club(CESC), Pune.
Sanjib to lead
GUWAHATI: Maharastra's Sheikh Sanjib was named captain of the 21-member Indian squad for the 31st Asian Youth Football Championship (under-19) to be held in Bangalore from August 17 to 25, according to All-India Football Federation (AIFF).
