SHIMLA, Aug 14: Additional Director General of Police (CID) A.K. Puri, Deputy Inspector General Police (South) K.S. Rana and Superintendent of Police, Hamirpur Jagjit Kumar were among 15 persons honoured at a special investiture ceremony held at Raj Bhawan today.Governor V.S. Rama Devi presented President's Police Medal to Puri for his outstanding services and sense of duty. DIG K.S. Rana, SP Jagjit Kumar, Inspector Kishori Lal and Head Constable Govind Ram were presented medals for their distinguished services.
Governor also decorated Ram Pal Sharma, Balbinder Singh Mahal, both Deputy Fire Officers at Baddi and Dharamsala, respectively, for their meritorious services. Commandant Virender Singh Pal, Kameshwar Dutt, Platoon Commander of the Home Guards and Civil Defence were also presented medals for their outstanding services.
Six civilians were also honoured for their role in saving the lives of people. These include Mehar Chand Thakur, a Manali-based environmentalist and journalist, Girdhari Lal, Kalyan Singh, Parveen Singh (all from Pandhar village, Kangra) Inder Singh Dadwalia (Bilaspur) Arvind Bedi (Solan) and Baij Nath (Kangra).
Those present at the ceremony included Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Director General of Police B.S. Thakur.
