CHANDIGARH, Aug 14: Punjab Sports Minister Nusrat Ali Khan said that all the important pending projects, including laying of an astroturf at Ludhiana, would be completed by March next year. This assurance was given by the minister after Punjab Sports Director Col Raminder Singh held discussion with Nusrat Ali Khan and Secretary Sports Bharat Raj Bajaj. All technical and financial aspects were discussed. The projects also included construction of stadia in me-mory of international kabaddi players who were killed in an accident.The Sports Minister emphasised that monitoring and progress of the infrastructure be given to the Government by the Sports Director from time to time. Nusrat Ali promised to suitably reward the Punjab under-16 hockey team which finished runners-up in the Independence Cup Gold Cup held at Delhi.
Yamunanagar win
Yamunanagar snatched an exciting 46-44 victory in the opening match of the Haryana State Basketball Championship in Yamunanagar today. The teams were tied at 23-all in the first half. Later, Panipat prevailed over Hisar by 54-46. Sixteen men's and 14 women's teams are taking part in the state meet which was inaugurated by Haryana Finance Minister Charandas Sorewala. He announced a grant of Rs 15,000. Chandigarh Basketball Association president Col Ajit Sing Judge presided over the function.
Wrestling trials
The Chandigarh Wrestling Association will conduct selection trials on August 17 at 9 a.m. at the Coaching Centre, Sector 30. The selected wrestlers will take part in the Manipur National Games.
