COLOMBO, August 16: The International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC) has not yet secured the release of 17 Indian crew members of a cargo ship who were taken captive by the Tamil Tigers after the Sri Lanka Air Force bombed the vessel last week.An ICRC spokesman said the release had been delayed due to ``logistical reasons'' but added that he expected formalities like clearance from the defence ministry and arrangements to transport the crew, would be completed by Monday. The ICRC spokesman said that its officials had met the crew members and found all of them in good health.
Meanwhile, the Lankan government has ordered an enquiry to ascertain the reasons for the deviation of the ship from its charted course to go close to the prohibited route in LTTE-held Mullaithivu coast. Coming in the wake of the imminent release of the Indian crew and the Indian official representation to the Lankan Government on allegations on the suspect role of B N Karkera the captain of the ship, an Indian, it is possible thatKarkera might be detained on his release by the LTTE.
The state radio this evening quoted the deputy defence minister, Gen Anirudha Ratwatte as saying the `comprehensive enquiry' would also focus on the background of the ship.
