Azhar XI win Coca Cola Cup
Fine half centuries from Rahul Dravid (66) and Ajay Jadeja (58) and their century partnership for the fifth wicket helped Azhar XI win the Coca Cola Cup in Dubai on Saturday. The duo arrested a top-order slump and helped Azhar XI post a challenging 197 for six in the truncated match of the three-match exhibition limited overs cricket series against Rashid Latif XI. In reply, the Pakistanis could only muster 181 for 8.

Uzma, Vijay win
Uzma Khan and Vijay Kannan reserved their best for the most important occasion. Their opponents Radhika Tulpule and Sanzaruz Zaman found their power and precision play too hot to handle at the MCC courts on Sunday in the IOB-MCC National junior tennis championship finals. While Uzma Khan demolished Tulpule 6-2, 6-1 to win her third consecutive crown, Vijay Kannan retained his title defeating Zaman 6-2, 6-2.

Joint leaders
Steve Stricker carded a flawless four-under par 66 in Redmound on Saturday to join Fiji's Vijay Singh atop the leaderboard after three rounds of the 80th PGA championship. Singh, who started the day one stroke in front of Stricker, faltered early but picked up four strokes in five holes on the back nine en route to a 67 for a seven-under total of 203.

Simi third
Janice Moodie, a 25 year-old rookie on the American Ladies PGA Tour, set up the chance to re-write the history books with a third-round 72 at Royal Lytham and St Anne's on Saturday. If she finishes on the top for the US $ 100,000 cheque, Moodie will be the first Scot to take the British Open. Moodie finished on three-over par 219 and one ahead of Betsy King, who also shot 72, and two in front of another two Americans, Leslie Spalding and Wendy Ward, and India's only woman professional, Smriti (Simi) Mehra.

Sohail to lead
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed opener Aamir Sohail to captain the team for the Sahara Cup and home series against Australia and Zimbabwe. The decision was taken by the executive council, the highet tier of the board, which also appointed Test veteran Javed Miandad as a coach. Sohail replaces Rashid Latif and Miandad takes over from Haroon Rasheed.

Sampras wins
Pete Sampras overcame a determined attack by Sweden's Magnus Larsson on Saturday night to reach the ATP Championship finals for the second consecutive year. Sampras scored 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory. Sampras, will defend his title against Patrick Rafter.
