CHANDIGARH, Aug 16: Manan Nagpal won two of his matches in the first Jaswant Singh Bhullar Memorial prize money snooker tournament here today. Tokhi win
Tokhi Cricket Club won the first MCC Coca Cola Cup tennis ball cricket tournament by beating MCC XI by one wicket in the final today.
A fine spell by Kala (4 for 15) enabled Tokhi Club to bundle MCC XI out for 82 but Tokhi Club batsmen played recklessly to place their side in trouble. However, Kaku (30), Deepak (20) and Parminder (15) ensured that Tokhi Club sneak home and win the cash prize of Rs 1500. Kaku was declared the man of the match.
Scores: MCC XI: 82 (Sanju 23, Hoshiar Singh 20, Kala 4-15, Sudhir 2-15, Pratap 2-10) lost to Tokhi Club: 84 for 9 (Kaku 30, Deepak 20, Parminder 15, Hoshiar Singh 3-18, Sanju 3-29).
Athletic trials
With the Chandigarh Olympic Association deciding to contain the participation of `outsiders' in the Chandigarh contingent for the Manipur National Games, the response to the trials, conducted by the Chandigarh Amateur Athletic Association was poor.
Bahadur Singh of Sector 46 relagated Mohinder of Chandigarh to second place in the men's 5,000 k.m. Bahadur Singh was a member of the Chandigarh team in Bangalore National Games. He had left the 5,000 metres race midway through and did not take part in 10,000 metres.
Ramesh of Central Reserve Police defeated Sarwan Singh of Chandigarh Police in 100 metres race. Sunil Yadav of Sector 46 Sports Complex emerged winner in 800 metres for men while Kavita Rani of Sector 46 Sports Complex participated in 1500 metres. Ashwaria took part in 100 metres for women. Unknown Malkiat Singh was the lone participant in shot put. Thrower Monica and walker Jasmine are likely to be included on the basis of their past performances.
Mehta memorial
The RS Mehta Memorial Table Tennis Open tournament will be held from August 28 to 30 at Sector 23 Table Tennis hallf. Events will be held in cadet boys and girls singles (under-12 yrs), sub-junior boys and girls singles (u-14), junior boys and girls (u-17) and men and women singles.
Top players from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh will participate. Entry closes on August 25 with Rajeev Kaushal at TT Hall, Sector 23 from 4.30 to 7.30 p.m.
