CHANDIGARH, Aug 16: Intermittent rainfall and a further fall in temperature today went well with the City residents, winding up a cool, three-day holiday bonanza. But, the not-so-good news for office-goers, besides the fact that tomorrow is that same back-to-work Monday, is that the weatherman predicts no respite from rain during the next 48 hours. On Sunday, the City recorded 17 mm rainfall in the morning and another 5 mm till the evening.The weather office had recorded 112.2 mm on August 14.
The three-day it rained the mercury dipped to 24.7 degrees Celsius today, a notch under yesterday's temperature, bringing a welcome City residents experienced relief from hot and humid weather conditions as light showers which lashed the city and surrounding areas around it since early morning today, brought considerable decline in the temperature.
The intermittent showers, which began early in the morning continued till the evening and inundated the low lying areas in the city. Infact, it rained for the second consecutive day after a long dry spell. Due to showers the maximum temperature of the city fell to 27.4 degrees celsius against 28.8 degrees yesterday and the temperature was six degrees below normal today, a weather office spokesman said.
With the sky remaining overcast throughout the day people preferred staying indoors. But youngsters enjoyed getting wet and eating out at fast food joints. Few others went for a drive up hill to enjoy the weather.
