LIC staff oppose privatisation move

NAWANSHAHR, Aug 16: The two-day session of the 29th Divisional Conference of Northern Zone Insurance Employees Association, Jalandhar Division concluded here today after adopting a number of resolutions.

The conference was attended by 125 delegates and observers representing the LIC employees working in all the offices of LIC under Jalandhar division. The conference was inaugurated yesterday by general secretary of the association Bhagwan Swaroop Sharma. He criticised the move of the government to open up the insurance sector and declared that LIC employees will opposes this with all their strength.

Mohan Lal, MLA Banga also addressed the conference and supported the demands of the employees. He too opposed the privatisation move and said that LIC was providing huge funds for developmental projects.Chander Shekhar, general secretary, Punjab CITU and Swatantar Kumar, general secretary of the Trade Union Council, Nawanshahr also addressed the gathering.

The report of the divisional committee was adopted unanimously by the conference after discussions in which 16 delegates participated. The conference adopted a number of resolution including early wage revision through bilateral discussions, restoration of collective bargaining rights, 33 per cent reservation for women, early recruitment in LIC and opposing of opening up of insurance sector to Indian or foreign monopoly capital.

The conference also endorsed the decision of the national body to launch a one-day nationwide strike on December 11 against the anti-people policies of the government.

Thirty three members were elected with H S Baweja and S S Kooner as divisional president and divisional secretary respectively.
