SHIMLA, Aug 16: Shimla - The queen of hills, today joined the scintillating world of fashion designing with National Institute of Fashion Designing opening its new centre in the town.

SHIMLA, Aug 16: Shimla - The queen of hills, today joined the scintillating world of fashion designing with National Institute of Fashion Designing opening its new centre in the town.

The town, which already has some of the best educational institutions, will now provide an opportunity to career boys and girls to opt for professional courses in fashion, textile and interior designing. An exclusive fashion show, in which country's top models like Shweta Menon, now also featuring in film Isaq with Amir Khan, Karminder Kaur, Femina Miss India- 1993, Jaspreet, Seitu, Mrinalini and Anchal displayed outfits designed by students of Chandigarh centre of the NIFD.

At a press conference, Pallob Bose, journalist and compere of the fashion show, told newsmen that basic idea of setting up the centre was to offer professional courses to the youths planning to take up their careers in fashion designing and also educate locals about advancement in the world of fashion.Some of the youths from Shimla had already chosen the careers in fashion and lots of others had aspired to join the courses. Initially 80 students would get enrolled in two separate courses. The fee would be between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 12,000 per annum. The academic eligibility for the course would be plus two.

The fashion show titled ``Face the pace'' held at the HP University Auditorium had 10 rounds, including of western outfits and ethnic designs. Jeet Brar was choreographer for the show. Over 200 students, who had designed the cloths were guided by Narita, Anju, Abha, Shalini, Shweta, Ruby and Buldip at NIFD, Chandigarh.

Replying to newsmen, the models talked about growing competition in the modelling careers and admitted that ``right contact'' to get an entry to the career was very important. About models taking up their careers in films and TV-serials, Shewta Menon (who is also doing films like Shikari and Bandhan with Govinda and Salman Khan respectively said, ``It is just a change, and if one has talent, gets an opportunity in acting, there is nothing wrong.''
