AMBALA, Aug 16: Anil Vij, an Independent MLA from Ambala Cantt. Assembly constituency, has come out in support of the demands of college and university teachers who are on indefinite strike all over the country. The MLA has appealed to Union Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi for immediate implementation of the pay-scales granted by the University Grant Commission (UGC) to the teachers.
He also requested the Minister for 100 per cent financial assistance to the state governments by the HRD ministry for five years to meet the expenditure incurred for implementation of the new grades. The MLA further urged the HRD Minister to personally intervene into the matter.
The legislator also appealed to the Haryana government to implement the pension scheme for teachers of aided colleges and schools, for which the state government had already agreed in principal (to bring the teachers under pension cover).
Taking serious view of the indefinite strike, Vij pointed out that it would have an adverse effect on the studies of the students and that the parents and guardians of the wards were also equally worried over the future of their wards.
