NEW DELHI, August 16: Delhi Chief Secretary Omesh Saigal has recorded 50 years of India's Independence in an inimitable style a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in blank verse.``Never Gandhi, not again'' (the song of Mahatma Gandhi), a tribute in a poetic style inspired by the song of Hiawatha, has just been released in book stores. The bureaucrat in this narrative poem recounts the epic struggle not only for India's freedom but for higher values, norms of life and spontaneity that was the Mahatma's true contribution to the making of modern India.
But it is also a cry from the heart of one who watches with anguish how the country has forgotten the Mahatma and all he stood for. The bureaucrat-poet even goes to the extent of saying that if Gandhi were to be born again in India, he would be shot again as ``all of us a Godse is''. Saigal said he began the song of Mahatma Gandhi many years back, left it midway and then re-started to complete it a few years ago.
It was the distress of falling values in society that prompted him to begin the poem, he added.
