Govt to shut down nine PSUs
Union industry minister Sikander Bakht said on Sunday that the government would close down nine sick public sector undertakings this year as part of its policy to close non-revivable units. He added that government would not be disinvesting in any unit other than the four mentioned in the budget - Container Corporation (Concor), Gail, VSNL and IOC.

ONGC not to sell Petronet stake
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is not in favour of diluting its equity in the Petronet LNG company to accommodate a fresh partner. Petronet had proposed bringing in the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) as a fresh partner considering its need for using gas as feedstock for running power plants.

Inflation remains high at 8.04%
The annual rate of inflation fell significantly by 0.28 percentage points to 8.04% for the week ended August 1, after touching a 139-week high last week. The fall in the rate of inflation during the week under review is despite a 0.1% increase in the index for all commodities.
