Script of a human tragedy foretold
To propel human tragedy into the realm of the "sensational" and call it a "burning issue" is to compound a crime even if it was committed 25 years ago. Two commercial Marathi plays recounting the trauma of KEM Hospital nurse Aruna Shanbag are scheduled for release, one of them promising "an original sensational play on a burning issue".

Luring tourists to rural Japan
It's squid race day in the Japanese village of Kazamaura, but whether the honours go to Emperor, Boy or Brian could be lost in the black ink that also graces the town's tourism balance sheet. Squid Emperor, Squid Boy, and Squid Brian, named after famous equine counterparts, are regular starters in this tiny village on the northern tip of Japan's main island.

She "created" history, now she feels cheated
Four months ago, Karamjit Kaur thought she was pregnant and found a place in medical history. Or so her doctors claimed. Dr Sumeet Sofat and his wife, Dr Sumita Sofat, who run the Sofat Infertility and Women Care Centre in Ludhiana, announced that the 61-year-old woman from Basti Bhag Singh village in Ferozpur had conceived. For Kaur and her husband, Kehar Singh -- who lost their 20-year-old son in December -- it was hope all over again. It was a medical miracle -- if it was true.
