TEHRAN, Aug 17: Iranian football star Mehdi Mahdavikia and his wife have been injured in a car accident in northern Iran, newspapers reported today.Mahdavikia, known as the `Bull', smashed his car against a tree as he lost control while driving on Friday on a windy road in the resort town of Chalus, bordering the Caspian Sea.
He suffered a head injury and his wife was hurt in the leg, Hamshahri Daily said, adding that their conditions were stable.
Mahdavikia, 21, scored Iran's second goal in a historical World Cup 2-1 victory against the United States in France.
Mahdavikia is wanted by several top foreign clubs Germany's Dortmund, Hamburg and Cologne.
