Teachers stir continues

VADODARA, AUG 18: There seems to be no solution in sight, even as the nation-wide teacher's strike entered the second week today.

More than 600 teachers of the Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) of Vadodara took out a rally to the city collector office here today and submitted a memorandum to the District Collector highlighting their demands.The rally was organised by the Baroda University Teachers Association (BUTA) and the memorandum will be forwarded to Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.

Meanwhile, college teachers in Andhra Pradesh today urged Prime Minister A B Vajpayee to intervene and find an amicable solution to the strike.

In a statement in Hyderabad, they also appealed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to help arrive at a negotiated settlement.In Tamil Nadu too teachers of Government and Government-aided colleges continued to strike work.

In a statement, Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers' Association (TNGCTA) said teachers would stage a demonstration in front of ShastriBhavan complex housing Central Government offices in Chennai on August 20.

In a separate statement, State All India Trade Union Congress general secretary S S Thyagarajan urged the Centre to hold talks with the striking teachers to end the agitation.
