Relief for D'Souza
PANAJI:
Goa's Wilfred D'Souza government was given a reprieve by the Panaji bench of the Bombay High Court today, which granted interim relief by staying the order of the Speaker Tomazinho Cardozo disqualifying the chief minister and nine other Goa Rajiv Congress legislators from the Assembly. The court also dismissed the petition filed byex-CM Pratapsinh Rane which stated that his removal by Governor Lt Gen (retd) J F R Jacob was motivated by malafide intentions.

Ultras nabbed
NEW DELHI:
In a major operation, Delhi police have arrested four hardcore Kashmiri militants belonging to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, including its chief administrator Mushtaq Ahmed Gilkar, who were trying to set up a base in the Capital. Gilkar along with a company commander of Anantnag, Javed Ahmed and two others, Fayaz Ahmed and Sohail Idris, were arrested on Monday while on their way to Khanpur area of South Delhi in a truck with a J&K number.

LTTE frees crew
COLOMBO:
The LTTE todayreleased 17 Indian crew members seized by them from a merchant ship which was destroyed by the Sri Lankan airforce planes on August 14. The LTTE formally released the captain and sixteen crew to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at an undisclosed place this morning in the rebel held northern Vanni region and were later brought here in a luxury bus.

Girl raped, burnt
MADURAI:
A 13-year-old school girl was allegedly raped and then set ablaze by her neighbour, a 14-year-old boy, when she was home alone here Monday evening. The girl, a eighth standard student, died at the government Rajaji hospital on Monday itself. Before she died, the girl said the boy raped her and tying her to a pillar set her ablaze.

Temple riot
BELGAUM:
Six persons were killed and many injured, 14 of them police personnel, when two factions of a temple trust clashed forcing police to fire in the air at Hulkund village in Belgaum on Monday.
