Mid-term polls round the corner: Mahajan

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KULLU, Aug 18: Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Sat Mahajan has appealed to all Congressmen to strengthen the party at the primary level while addressing Congress workers at a district-level meeting convened by the Kullu District Congress Committee here yesterday.

The PCC chief pointed out that a ticket to contest the ensuring bypoll to be held from Baijnath Assembly constituency would be allocated to a candidate who would be in a winning position. He said that the ticket for Baijnath would be finalised by him and Virbhadra Singh after due consultation.

Mahajan said that the midterm polls for Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha were inevitable as the BJP coalition government at the Centre and in the state would fall at any moment. He clarified that the Congress ticket for Anni (reserved) and Banjar constituency would be allotted to sitting MLAs.

Mahajan said that since the Congress was the party of workers, he would give an ear to the grassroot workers to have close interaction with them. He made it clear that it was the Congress high command which had expelled former minister Sukh Ram and it was only the high command that was empowered to take him into the party fold again.

Former deputy speaker and Congress MLA from Anni constituency Ishwer Dass, former minister of state for horticulture Satya Prakash Thakur and former minister of state for tourism Raj Krishan Gaur were prominent among those who expressed their views.
