Notice to HPU on B.Ed admissions

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SHIMLA, Aug 18: The HP High Court today issued notice returnable on August 26 to the HP University on a writ petition alleging discrimination in admissions to B.Ed course in MLSM College, Sundernagar in Mandi district.

The notices were also issued to the college principal and Himani Thakur who was allegedly granted admission though she had not even opted for admission in this college at the time of her application for combined entrance test.

The petitioner Arun Patial, alleged that he was at serial No 7 in the list of candidates against five subsidised seats in B.Ed (medical) group in the college. Two of the candidates joined HPU and the petitioner became eligible for admission.

The rules required candidates to file seperate applications for HPU, Post Graduate Centre, Sharamshala and MLSM College, Sundernagar. Thakur, according to the petition had not applied for admission to the college and had applied only for the university.

The petitioner made enquiries and was told by the principal of the college that she was granted admission under instructions from the university authorities, he further alleged. Shrawan Dogra argued on behalf of the petitioner that the impugned admission was arbitrary, unreasonable and against the admission norms advertised by the university. Indication available after the court notice point that the respondent hails from a politically well connected family in the state.
