Curiously, both the Delhi police and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) deny any hand the creation of the published identikit. More curiously, the police have made no attempt to ascertain who created the presumed look-alike of the as yet unestablished third person and how the newspaper came to possess it.

The NCRB, which forms part of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is the primary agency that collates identikits. Identikits are drawn by specially trained artists who piece together a look-alike of a suspect on the basis of accounts provided by eyewitnesses. In the current case, there are no known eyewitnesses to the existence of a third person. An identikit cannot be drawn out of thin air. So whodunit?

The newspaper concerned has refused to source the mystery sketch and the police seem content to let the matter rest.

Yet another area which has completely been ignored by the police in spite of the contentious forensic findings is the DNA fingerprinting test which can conclusively establish whether a third (or more) person was involved in the death of Monika and/or Rajiv. The test will rule out the possibility of anyone one else having sex with Monika Malik that night by giving conclusive semen results. The CSFL test which is currently being conducted can only establish the blood group on the basis of semen sample.

The DNA test according to experts would give ``clinching evidence''which would be a foolproof pointer to the police. The test has been carried out in several other famous murder cases including Naina Sahni tandoor murder case and Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

Forensic experts contacted by Express Newsline say that the kind of contradictions in post-mortem findings which are daily being aired by the police would be set at rest with this test.
