BJP ministers boycott Cabinet meeting
The public spat between key BJP leaders and Shiv Sena Housing minister Sureshdada Jain rocked the Maharashtra Cabinet yesterday with the BJP boycotting the meeting and swearing not to return untill Jain's new housing scheme was redrafted. This is perhaps the first time that a major coalition partner has taken such a drastic step prompting the Congress to immediately demand dimissal of the government on the grounds that the Sena had lost the confidence of its partner.

Congress seeks Joshi's ouster yet again
The Maharashtra Congress has called for the dismissal of the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party Government in the State under Article 356 of the Constitution. Describing the decision of half the cabinet to stay away from its weekly meeting with the chief minister as unprecedented, the leaders of the Opposition in the two Houses of the State Legislature, said the written notice to the Sena by the BJP amounted to a constitutional crisis for the Joshi government.

Coalition in pieces: Karunanidhi
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has said that the 18-party coalition government at the Centre led by the Bharatiya Janata Party had broken into pieces. In contrast, during the United Front rule at the Centre, though there were 13 parties, there was proper administration .This was because co-operation was extended by coalition partners, he added.
