Kyrgyz pride at stake

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
BANGALORE, Aug 20: With the defeat to India meaning doom, the Kyrgyz should make a valiant attempt to salvage some pride by winning atleast the remaining matches. Coach Zagid Valiev was confident that his boys will return in full force to attempt a last ditch effort.

``We have put the defeat behind us and are really raring to do well tomorrow,'' Valiev said on Thursday. But the main hindrance to the side's hopes would be the absence of medio Kiril Keker, defenders Andrey Pestrykov and Andrei Fedenov, who face the stipulated suspension for cards. The three have hitherto played a crucial role in shaping the movements of their side -- both in attack and in defence. Their bench too would be weakened as Andrei Krasnav is the fourth player who faces suspension. Krasnav, though has been used only as a substitute.

Any Kyrgyz dream to do well would solely rely upon how the replacements cope with the pressure.

Pakistan would make a genuine attempt to keep the race for top honours alive. The side showed goodcohesion in the victory in their opening match and a side like Bhutan should only help coach Zafar Iqbal try new things keeping in mind the big battle against India.

Meanwhile, unperturbed by all these the Indian team chose to take a well-deserved break. The boys had only a light work out and were let free for the rest of the day. And having seized the early initiative in the tournament they enjoy the luxury of watching the others in the fray, especially Pakistan fight it out.
